Sphinx Gold & Rare Earths Prospect
Cassiar Region, Northern British Columbia

Pacific Bay's 100% owned Sphinx property, acquired by staking, covers and surrounds Sphinx Mountain on the western side of the Eagle River, approximately 58 km (36 mi) north-northeast of the community of Dease Lake in northern British Columbia. The Property is readily accessible via helicopter support from the community of Dease Lake

There is no recorded exploration history or assessment reports for the area covered by the Property. Most of the regional historic exploration work has been focused on the gold placer deposits along Thibert River, west of Dease River, or the lead-zinc-silver-gold showings along Nizi Creek northeast of Beale Mountain.

In 1995 the British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (MEMPR) managed and funded a reconnaissance-scale stream sediment and water survey of the Cry Lake map-sheet, within which the Property is situated. The resulting field and analytical data were released in 1996. It included a total of 1,228 sediment and 1,213 water samples collected from 1,159 sample sites.

Sample number 1122, situated at the confluence of an easterly-flowing creek with the Eagle River within the property, returned one of the highest light and heavy Rare Earth Element sites of the entire survey. Sample number 1123, situated at the confluence of an easterly-flowing creek with the Eagle River returned a gold analysis of 24 parts per billion (ppb).

In 2011 Geoscience BC released results of a large-scale re-analysis of stream sediment samples that had been collected within northern BC since 1995. A re-analysis of sample 1123 returned values of 7,086.2 ppb Au and 4,974 ppb Ag, and its duplicate sample (number 1124) returned values of 97.2 ppb Au and 83 ppb Ag.

Reconnaissance geochemical sampling and prospecting was carried out in the summer and fall of 2011, the results of which are pending.
