Pacific Bay Granted 30 Additional Claims in the Matoush Area, Otish Mountains Uranium Basin, Québec Consolidated Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd. — TSX Venture — CBP

Vancouver, British Columbia, August 9, 2006 -- Mr. George Sanders, President, Consolidated Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd. (TSX Venture: CBP, the "Company") is pleased to announce the granting of 30 additional mining claims by the province of Québec in the Matoush Area of the Otish Mountains uranium basin under an agreement with a private individual announced on July 18, 2006. PacBay's holdings in the Otish Mountains now total 120 claims representing an area of over 63 square kilometres (24 square miles) covering unconformity-related, vein-type uranium targets in the Matoush structure and along the SW rim of the Otish Basin adjacent to claim blocks held by uranium explorers Cameco Corporation, Strateco Resources, Inc. and others. PacBay plans to conduct airborne geophysics over these Otish Mountains Basin claims soon. Strateco recently announced very significant high-grade uranium mineralization in drill holes in the Matoush structure less than 4 kms to the south of PacBay's claims in an area originally discovered in the 1980's by Uranerz Exploration and Mining, Ltd.

George Sanders, P.Geo, President, and a Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101 for the purposes of this News Release, states "These newly granted claims strategically position PacBay in the Matoush structure and surrounding area with its potential for high-grade uranium mineralization, and we have more claims pending in this exciting uranium play. We are aggressively moving forward on both our Otish Mountains and Mont-Laurier field exploration programs in the province of Québec."

Pacific Bay Minerals explores for uranium and precious metals with major projects in Québec and Argentina. A map showing the new PacBay claims and current claim status in the Matoush area has been posted to our website along with a cartoon cross section of the Otish Mountains Basin explaining these unconformity-related, vein-type uranium exploration targets. Please visit our website for more information on all our programs.

On Behalf Of The Board Of Directors
