Pacific Bay Acquires New Uranium Claims Near Historic Showings in the Mont-Laurier District, Québec
Vancouver, British Columbia, February 22, 2006 -- Mr. Guilford Brett, President of Consolidated Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd. (TSX Venture: CBP, the "Company") is pleased to announce recording of 16 new mineral claims over highly prospective ground in the emerging Mont-Laurier uranium exploration play in southern Québec, Canada. These claims comprise a 9.4 sq km (3.6 sq mi) contiguous block along the northeast side of a large claim block held and being actively explored by Nova Uranium Corporation of Vancouver. PacBay recently announced staking of claims along the northwest side of this claim block (see News Release December 9, 2005). The area is about 200 km northwest of Montreal in moderately hilly terrain with excellent access.
These new claims, referred to as PacBay's Mont-Laurier East claim group, lie immediately adjacent to the historic Andy Lake, Adrian Pond, Road and Cliff uranium showings identified by Canadian Johns Manville Company Ltd. and several other companies during the mid to late 70's. Another historic uranium showing called Lac Marion lies approximately 1 km east of the new claims on the south end.
PacBay geologists had been following this emerging uranium play and were able to acquire these new mineral rights on-strike with the northeast trend of favourable pegmatite/orthogneiss stratigraphy, which hosts the historic uranium showings. The Company believes its Mont-Laurier properties represent excellent uranium discovery potential within similar rock types. PacBay plans to initiate a field exploration program as early as possible in the spring of 2006.
